Home For The Holidays

I have finished up my first stay in Key Largo and am headed back to Michigan for the Holidays. It has been a blast reconnecting with all my clients and catching lots of fish to boot. We have been concentrating on catching as opposed to trophy fishing which can be a blast. I have had many families with lots of children and even a few pups always fun!

We have had shots at big snook and Redfish and have been seeing more Bonefish, but they have been hard to fool. We have caught lots of Jacks, up to 15-pounds and many Sharks biggest around 6-foot. They put a really big bend in the rod!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. I will be back at Ocean Reef the 28th of December. See you then!

Wonderful Weather

This week has been a big change from last. We have had bright sunny days with very little wind making fishing a blast! I have fished with clients from all over the map this week, making it interesting to see how things effect people in different areas of our world!

We have caught a lot of fish this week, most clients have been interested in action so I have targeted fish that are a bit more agreeable. We have encountered some monster snook and redfish, but they have managed to elude our offerings. We did manage however to seduce several bonefish this week!!

Hope weather stays good for Holiday Weekend!

Rod Bending Action

It has been another windy week in Key Largo, but we didn't let it slow us down! All of my charters this week have had a common request "Action". In order to fill their request I have targeted more cooperative species, lots of sharks, jacks, snappers, small groupers along with the elusive and dangerous hound fish!

Several of my regular clients are returning to Ocean Reef for the season so we should be starting to capture the target species and unwrapping the fly rod for some serious action!
Hoping for blue sky's and a light breeze for the rest of the winter!

First Week Back

I have been back at the Ocean Reef Club for a week now and am getting back in the swing of things! I have ran a couple of charters and have had some interesting results. It has been very windy since my return, but that is a fact of life this time of year.

On my first charter back we caught several sharks and two beautiful mutton snappers, dinner for all involved! Yesterday we landed six sharks and caught a boatload of jacks and snappers, lots of rod bending action! We have not landed a bone or permit yet, but conditions have not been conducive to sight fishing so waiting for right day for that.

If you would like to get out on the water give me or the Orvis shop at Ocean Reef a call.

Fall Update

I know all good things must come to an end, but it is hard for me to let go of this summer! I have had wonderful fishing on the AuSable and great fun with everyone up north!  In a week I will be back in the fabulous Florida Keys and ready to kick some bonefish a---.  It is always crazy getting there and preparing boats and tackle for the season!! In no time I will be back in the South Florida groove and ready for a busy winter season.

I look forward to seeing all my Ocean Reef friends and terrorizing the flats for another season! You can call me direct or contact Orvis at Ocean Reef if you would like to book a trip.

Back On The AuSable

It feels so good to be back home on the Ausable.  Between catching up on all the repairs and keeping up with all the rising trout I have been very busy! Upon my return the river was very high and dirty, but she is almost back to normal. The level is fine, but still has a little color. The insects on the other had are having a blast! Ones the fish bite and ones that bite us are all doing well!! It is hard to decide which fly to use, to many choices.

Big flies are starting to hatch in the evenings, drakes and iso’s hex can’t be far behind. I still have a few openings in late June. Call if you are interested.

Mid Winter Fun

I have been having a blast fishing lately. We have not been chasing the big three around Key Largo,  as they are in short supply at this point in time. We have just been looking for rod benders! There have been lots of trout, sharks and some nice redfish and a few snook. There has also been a good bite of mackerel and jacks. We have been catching lots of mackerel, trout and jacks on fly. Great fun!

We will soon be shifting our focus to the big three and doing some real hunting! It is all good and as I have been told my many. " The tug is the drug!"

Look forward to fishing with you at Ocean Reef Club soon.
